The Indian team will try to recover after a disastrous loss in the first T20I against New Zealand in Wellington on Wednesday. They were overtaken in the batting and bowling departments and succumbed to a loss of 80 races.

Here is a look at the XI planned for the Indian team for the second T20I in Auckland.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma will have to find a way to provide a good start for the Indian team. He has failed in his last three international innings, recording single-digit scores. When Rohit Sharma starts, India is generally on the winning side and, therefore, the substitute captain’s innings are always crucial.

Shikhar DhawanShikhar Dhawan has been able to start, but he has not converted them into big scores in his last innings. With Virat Kohli resting for the series, Rohit and Dhawan will have to take responsibility for scoring most of the races. The Delhi hitter will surely expect a great opportunity in the next match.

Shubman Gill

Vijay Shankar could have been the third leading scorer among the Indian hitters in the first T20I, but since Shankar did not receive any surplus in the bowl, he could make way for a real batter of the first order Shubman Gill. The Punjab cricketer could not handle much in his first two ODI, but he has the potential to achieve a high score on a good hitting track in Auckland. Rishabh Pant did not have the best start in the first T20I. He achieved only four 10-ball races. The batting hitter will no doubt seek to score a high score in the next game to reserve a spot on the World Cup team. Pant can change any game on its own and, therefore, is crucial to India’s future plans.

MS Dhoni

While the entire Indian batting lineup failed, it was MS Dhoni again, who raised his hand and recorded a decent amount of 39 runs of 31 balls. The wicketkeeper-batsman played until 19 before presenting a catch to Lockie Ferguson. Dhoni hit five fours and a six in his innings.

Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik showed good form in the ODI series in Australia, but could not replicate it in the first T20I against New Zealand. Karthik has been given the responsibility to finish the tickets in T20Is. The cricketer from Tamil Nadu will undoubtedly look to bat sensibly in the next game.
