Pune: An excellent performance in the second half of young Lallianzuala Chhangte helped Delhi Dynamos record an impressive 3-2 victory over FC Pune City in their opening of the Indian Super League at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old Mizoram created the first goal for Delhi before scoring one for him on a memorable night.
Paulo Henrique Dias Da Cruz, Chhangte and Matias Mirabaje scored three goals in the second half for the winners, while Emiliano Alfaro and Marcos Tebar were on the scoreboard for Pune City.
After the first 45 minutes of opening, Delhi Dynamos dominated the possession without creating any opportunity, the game took a turn in the second half.
It took Delhi only a minute in the second half to open his account. After hard work on the left flank, Chhangte sent a delicious cross to the nearby post where Da Cruz did the rest to deliver the advantage to Delhi.
Eight minutes later, Chhangte found himself clearly in the goal after Delhi defender Gurtej Singh could not clear the ball to save it. Chhangte coolly lifted the ball by attacking FC Pune City goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh to double the lead.
Delhi seemed to have total control of the game and seemed more likely to score. And they did it in the most spectacular way in the 65th minute. After working in a short corner, Mirabaje released a curly left foot from the edge of the box that found the top corner of the nets.
After Mirabaje’s goal, the match seemed done and sprinkled. However, only two minutes later, Pune withdrew one. Sarthak Golui’s cross found Emiliano Alfaro out of the area, and the Uruguayan crashed a low shot over Delhi goalkeeper Albino Gomes.
Encouraged by the goal, Pune pressed for a second goal, but Delhi defended resolutely. The hosts eventually reduced the deficit to only one through Marcos Tebar in the third minute of added time, but it turned out too little and too late.
