‘Raid’ Review: Ajay Devgn, Ileana D’cruz’s social drama is pertinent

Raid (social drama)

Rating of the critics: 4/5

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Ileana D’Cruz, Saurabh Shukla

Direction: Raj Kumar Gupta

Duration: 1 hour, 52 minutes

Language: Hindi (U / A)

Story: Amay Patnaik (Ajay Devgn), a super honest income tax official, raids on corrupt and connected Rameshwar Singh (Saurabh Shukla). But it seems as if Patnaik had signed his own death sentence. Will the IT officer fall under pressure or will he be victorious from home?

Review: The film is based on material from several real stories of IT incursions made in Uttar Pradesh in the early ’80s. Ironically, the residence of Rameshwar, “White House”, on the outskirts of Lucknow, is home to 420 million rupees of black money and Patnaik, a man with a reserve of steel and impeccably clean reputation, who has received a warning, is determined to find the missing wealth If you are idealistic, you can easily fall for Patnaik. It is the kind of hero that is urgently needed to unleash a battle against corruption with which our country is synonymous. And you remain invested in it because it is our utopian belief that with more Patnaiks, the system will be washed. Of course, Rameshwar has connections in high places, including the Prime Minister, no less. And he tries his best to insult and intimidate Patnaik through hard-line tactics.

Raj Kumar Gupta (Aamir, Nobody Killed Jessica, Ghanchakkar) returns to the big screen after an interval of five years. Fortunately, the hiatus has not oxidized it. He manages to go through this tense drama with the required speed, but with very few real surprises. In addition, he does not inspire great performances. The cast of support is a complete disappointment with most of the actors who seem to have ingested castor oil but are still constipated. With the exception of Ajay, there is no act worthy of mention. Ileana looks beautiful in her sari and bindi avatar, but exceeds in her quotient of tenderness. Instead of reacting as if she were married to an IT officer, she behaves as if she were married to a BSF Jawan. One knows the dangers of both jobs, but an actor still needs some subtlety to show the difference between a uniformed man in front of a bullet and the plainclothes man who bites the bullet.

The dialogues of Ritesh Shah provide some lines worthy of a whistle and the dialogue that praises the value and values makes your chest swell with pride. You are absolutely one with the hero in most situations and you want him to win at all costs, especially because the likes of a fugitive like Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi make you feel really angry and cheated.

The romantic song between Ajay and Ileana is too orchestrated with the stock montages of them doing the usual shaving foam routine and a few other things. But they were lucky with the melodious tracks, Sanu Ek Pal Chain and Nit Khair Manga, composed by Tanishk Bagchi and sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, which have an unsettling quality.

Verdict: Look at Raid because, despite the corruption that surrounds us, we still believe that we can win the war against black money hoarders. Also, look at the intensity of Ajay Devgn. He is sincere, relentless and does not blink even once. A star in the classification is reserved only for him.
