Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (M & M) released an updated version of its popular Scorpio on Tuesday. Starting at Rs 9.97 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the S3 base seat, the SUV is available in seven, eight and nine-seat configurations. The new model receives a large amount of cosmetic updates, while the most prominent is the higher power option for the higher S7 and S11 variants.
Under the hood, the new Scorpio gets the same 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine that has been redesigned to deliver 140PS (20PS more) of power and 320Nm (30Nm more) of torque in the top variant (S11). The high-power motor is also available as an option with the S7 medium variant which is also available in 120PS, 280Nm version together with S3 and S5 trim.
The engine comes coupled with a new six-speed manual transmission that is said to be more efficient and the S11 variant (above) also has a choice of all-wheel drive (AWD) transmission.
The exterior changes in the new Mahindra Scorpio include a redesigned grid with seven slats along with a fitted front bumper and new projector headlights. In addition, fog lamps, mounted rearview mirrors turn indicators and 17-inch alloy wheels are also new. The rear part receives some minor adjustments in the LED taillights, as well as in the tailgate.
The interior also receives updates, such as a faux leather upholstery for the top trim, and the company also claims to have a better NVH level, promising a quieter cabin. The other new features include an information and entertainment touch screen with navigation, rear parking camera and driver-side automatic window that are also available with certain variants.
Commenting on the launch, Rajan Wadhera, President – Automotive Sector, M & M, said that Scorpio has extended the boundaries of Mahindra and created new benchmarks for others since its launch in 2002.

The high-end finish of the new Scorpio comes loaded with technical features such as automatic headlights and windshield wipers, automatic climate control, cruise control and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The SUV’s safety features include the new 9.1 ABS ABS system, dual front airbags, folding steering column and emergency brake indication among others.
The color options available with the new Mahindra Scorpio are pearl white, diamond white, black, silver and red.
