The baby dies after vaccination

A one-and-a-half-month-old girl died in a hospital in Lucknow Wednesday, hours after being vaccinated against poliomyelitis and other diseases, the Hindustan Times reported.

The boy’s family said he had no illness when he was taken to the Avantibai Veerangana Hospital where he was given the first doses of oral polio vaccine, poliomyelitis vaccine and pentavalent vaccine for protection against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenza type B. The child and his / her family left the hospital after vaccination. However, her father brought her two hours later when the doctors in the pediatric ward examined her and declared her dead.

Doctors at the hospital have argued that the same vaccines had been given to other children who had no adverse effects. However, the vaccine bottles used to immunize the infant who died have been sealed and possibly sent to a laboratory in Kasauli for examination. The child’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
