‘Will fight BJP-Cong pact’: Arvind Kejriwal’s swipe after Sheila Dikshit’s no to tie-up

Delhi’s head of government, Arvind Kejriwal, accused Congress of helping the BJP in the 2019 polls after it decided against an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi. Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit had said no to the alliance after a meeting with the president of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday morning.

Kejriwal tweeted about a possible “secret understanding” between BJP and Congress and said that Delhi is ready to fight against the “Cong-BJP alliance”.

“At a time when the whole country wants to defeat the Modi Shah duo, Cong is helping BJP by dividing the vote against BJP. Rumors that Cong has some secret understanding with BJP. Delhi is ready to fight against the Cong-BJP alliance. The people will defeat this profane alliance, “Kejriwal wrote.

The head of the AAP, Kejriwal, had said that an alliance was necessary to defeat the BJP, but Tuesday’s announcement by Congress put an end to speculation about a pact in Delhi.

At a press conference Tuesday, AAP spokesman Gopal Rai said Congress was playing hide-and-seek and helping the BJP.

The main leaders who were present at the meeting with the head of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, said that the party leadership had a problem with the shared seat proposed by the ruling AAP in Delhi.

Arvind Kejriwal had previously said that they tried to convince Congress of a pact in Delhi, but the offer was rejected. “If today our alliance with Congress is made, the BJP will lose the seven seats in Delhi,” said the head of the AAP.

There were reports that the AAP wanted the alliance with Congress to extend to Punjab and also to Haryana and Goa, two other states where it has a presence.
