NEW DELHI: The tax department launched on Friday the installation of e-PAN in real time, a measure that is expected to reduce interaction with the department and help taxpayers generate the permanent account number (PAN) without any hassle.
The installation is free and you can log in to the income tax website to generate the e-PAN. It is available to individual resident taxpayers and not to the Hindu undivided family (HUF), businesses, trusts and businesses, and is open for a limited period in order of arrival for valid Aadhaar holders.
You do not need to present any document. The e-PAN will be generated using the details available in Aadhaar. Therefore, you must ensure that these are updated details because the e-KYC will be made using the Aadhaar database.
Once the e-KYC is based on the Aadhaar OTP, the e-PAN application process will begin. You will have to load a scanned copy of your signature into a white paper with the specifications given on the income tax website. After submitting the application, a 15-digit confirmation number will be generated and sent to your mobile number / email address mentioned in the application form.
“Thanks to the high use of technology and digitization adopted by the government in the tax department, now results in a truly convenient and paperless interface with taxpayers, one can expect more of such initiatives in the coming days, which will make the Taxpayers’ lives are easier to manage their tax affairs, “said Kuldip Kumar, partner and personal tax leader at the consulting firm PwC India.
