Qatar Airways Plane Makes Emergency Landing After Commander Falls Ill

Panaji: A Qatar Airways plane bound for Doha from Thiruvananthapuram made an emergency landing this morning at the Goa airport after its commander fell ill in the air.

However, the QR 507 copilot landed the plane safely, Qatar Airways said.

The plane landed at the Goa airport around 7 a.m. after obtaining the necessary authorizations, said airport director BCH Negi.

“We received a message that the pilot on a Qatar Airways plane was uncomfortable and that the plane requested permission for an emergency landing, which was granted after following all procedures,” he added.

Qatar Airways, in a statement later in the evening, confirmed the diversion of its aircraft to Dabolim airport because its pilot fell ill in the air.

“We can confirm that the QR507 flight, which operates on the Trivandrum-Doha route, was diverted to the Goa International Airport early this morning, one hour and forty minutes after its departure from the Trivandrum International Airport.

“Our pilot fell ill … According to the Qatar Airways procedure in these cases, the plane was diverted to the nearest airport, the Goa International Airport, where our well-trained First Officer landed the plane safely shortly before 07:00 o’clock local”. the statement said.

Subsequently, the airline sent a distress plane to Goa to transport the stranded passengers to their destination.

The new flight landed in Doha around 5:30 p.m. (local time), the statement said.
