A resident of KURUKSHETRA, Jagdeep Malik, was arrested on Tuesday on charges of kidnapping and murdering his nephews – Sameer, 11, Samar, 4 – and his niece Simran, 8.
The three were children of his cousin Sonu Malik. Police said Sonu’s role was also under the scanner. They suspect that he plotted a conspiracy to eliminate his children through Jagdeep. Sonu was being interrogated until late at night.
The three brothers were reported missing since Sunday morning in their village of Sarsa in Pehowa tehsil district of Kurukshetra in Haryana. Their bodies were recovered from two places in the jungle near the Lake Tikkar Tal complex on Tuesday morning. The preliminary investigation pointed to Sonu’s relationship with a woman as the motive behind the murders.
“Sonu is also in our custody and we are interrogating him, Jagdeep told us that he executed the crime at the behest of Sonu,” said a senior police officer. Kurukshetra SP Abhishek Garg told The Indian Express that the father had not been arrested yet and that he was being interrogated.
Sonu’s relative, Rajesh Malik, presented a missing report of the three children on Sunday afternoon after Sonu’s wife, Suman Devi, gave the alarm. The police learned that Sonu had a tense relationship with his wife. She alleged that Sonu had an illicit relationship with a woman based in Himachal Pradesh.
On Monday night, police arrested Sonu and Jagdeep. During the interrogation, Jagdeep told the police that Sonu plotted the conspiracy to eliminate his children, and that he executed the crime.
