Couple beaten up for hugging in Kolkata metro, protesters seek action


According to reports, a couple was beaten for hugging on a subway train in Kolkata on Monday. The incident sparked protests at the Dum Dum subway station, demanding the arrest of the culprits. According to reports, the couple was beaten by some elderly people traveling in the subway.

The Anandabazar Patrika reported that the incident was triggered after a discussion between the couple and the culprits. When the train arrived at the Dum Dum subway station, the couple was dragged to the platform and began to hit the man.

After this, the woman intervened to save her partner and was hit by the angry mob. According to reports, some women and young people came to their rescue and made them escape.

Well-known author Taslima Nasreen reacted to the incident by saying: “Hate scenes are allowed, scenes of love are considered obscene”.

She tweeted: “A young couple hugged in the Kolkata subway, made a group of frustrated old losers angry, they beat them, hate scenes are allowed, love scenes are considered obscene.”

According to the authorities, no complaints have been filed about the incident. However, the reports cited officials who said they were investigating the matter.
