China said on Tuesday it is confident of guaranteeing the $ 50 billion CPEC success, a day after Pakistan’s security czar claimed that the United States and India are conspiring against the ambitious economic corridor.
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project of China’s prestigious One Belt One Road, passes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The CPEC links the unstable Xinjiang region of China with the Pakistani province of Balochistan.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters on Tuesday that China expects more countries to join the project.
“I want to reiterate that CPEC is a new type of framework for long-term cooperation in various areas between China and Pakistan,” he said when asked about Pakistan’s claims.
The project not only has a positive importance for the development of the two countries, but also favors the development of the entire region, said Hua.
“We hope that CPEC can receive more support and recognition from more countries and we hope to ensure the success of the construction of CPEC with several parties, including Pakistan,” he added.
Pakistan’s national security adviser, retired lieutenant general Nasser Jan Janjua, accused the United States on Monday of conspiring against the multi-billion dollar economic corridor with India.
