Bengaluru: Ola cab driver allegedly traps woman in car by activating child lock, harasses her

An Ola driver allegedly harassed a 23-year-old fashion stylist who was riding in his taxi in Bengaluru on Sunday night, The New Indian Express reported on Tuesday.

According to reports, the driver activated the child lock in the taxi and harassed her. The next day, she made several calls and also threatened her with dire consequences because she had complained to the taxi aggregator company.

A spokesperson for Ola said the company had suspended the driver of his platform and urged the woman to file a police complaint, according to the ANI.

“We regret the unfortunate experience the client had during his trip, we have zero tolerance for such incidents,” the spokesperson said. “Customer safety is our priority and we will continue to expand our full support for this investigation against that driver.”

Around 10:30 pm Sunday, the woman was traveling alone from the Indiranagar area to BTM Layout in a Ola taxi driven by Rajashekhar Reddy, she said. Once the vehicle reached the intermediate ring road on the way to Koramangala, Reddy reportedly stopped the car and then tried to touch the woman inappropriately.

“There were no vehicles moving around the place, I tried to get out of the vehicle but he had hooked the child lock so that the doors would not open,” the woman added. She said that they let her out only after she started hitting the windows. Reddy supposedly followed her even after she got out of the vehicle and ran about 500 meters away.
