New Delhi: Former Union Minister and Congress leader, P Chidambaram, has received protection against arrest in the Aircel-Maxis case until July 10.
This came after the Enforcement Directorate (DE) sought more time to present its response on the advance bail statement filed by Chidambaram in this regard. A special court asked ED to present his response before June 5.
Previously, the Patiala House Court had ordered Chidambaram to appear before the ED on June 5. The court also ruled that no coercive measures could be taken against Chidambaram until then.
The Finance Minister presented his request for early bail in the Aircel-Maxis case in which his son, Karti Chidambaram, also received provisional protection against the arrest until July 10.
The Central Research Office and the Application Directorate are investigating Karti Chidambaram for its alleged participation in obtaining the approval of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in the Aircel-Maxis agreement.
The agreement took place when his father P Chidambaram was the Union’s Finance Minister in 2006.
