49 killed as heavy rains lash Uttar Pradesh


LUCKNOW: Some 49 people lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh since Thursday, with Saharanpur accounting for a maximum of 11 deaths, while heavy rains wreaked havoc in different parts of the state, a spokesperson for the Office of the Relief Commissioner . he said here

Although six deaths have been reported each in Agra and Meerut, four have died in Mainpuri, three in Kasganj, two in Bareilly, Baghpat and Bulandshahr and one in Kanpur Dehat, Mathura, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Rae Bareli, Jalaun, Jaunpur, Pratapgarh , Banda, Firozabad, Amethi, Kanpur and Muzaffarnagar said.

The prime minister, Yogi Adityanath, has ordered senior officials from all districts to alert people and ask them to make extensive tours in the affected areas and identify the buildings in ruins and evict them, a government spokesman said.

Directives have also been issued to extend early monetary assistance to those who have been severely affected by the rains and also provide medical treatment to those who need it, he said.
