The last play of the Varun Dhawan box office has helped him raise his salary. Judwaa 2 is expected to cross Rs 100 crore by the second weekend, and Varun has now raised its rate quote.
Sources in the trade report that actor Badlapur will now be billing his producers a fresh Rs 25 crore as his fees. This makes him the seventh largest male star in Bollywood after Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn.
A commercial source reports: “Akshay Kumar has developed a different way of charging money. He charges Rs 20 crores as his fees, but ends up taking 80 percent of the profits.” Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir come on board as producers also for their films, so the figure is automatically higher.Ajay charges Rs 40 crore per film, due to its Rs 400 crore Star TV agreement for the satellite rights of its films.Hrithik charges more than Rs 30 crore per film. ”
Commercial analyst Atul Mohan says Varun has a lot to do in his favor. “He does not do things beyond what his skills are and at the same time he is immensely sympathetic. This is one of the reasons why growth is not really surprising. Most importantly, he comes from a family movie and is the son of one of the most successful trading directors in Bollywood, so the advice given to him is mostly correct, “he says.
Atul also adds that Varun’s choice of films has contributed much to its growth. The only non-combat film Varun was in his career was Badlapur and even that movie made money. “The two Dulhania films for Karan Johar have also helped Varun, and he’s trying to keep that image to his films,” he says.
