IFFI jury member Rahul Rawail: The I&B ministry can override and reject any film

The jury of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) can still be shaken by the impact of two films, S Durga, by Sanal Sasidharan, and Nude, by Ravi Jadhav, which were left without the members of the jury being informed. . After this, the jury president Sujoy Ghosh, Apurva Asrani and Gyan Correa resigned from the jury.
However, a member of the jury, film director Rahul Rawail, told indiannexpress.com that he was informed that Nude would not be the opening film.
He said: “I was not informed that both films were removed from the final film screening list at IFFI, I was informed that Nude will not be the opening film, and they asked me if I had another film like the opening film. No reason assigned why Nude would not be the opening movie, nor did they give a reason why S Durga would not be screened either. ”
When we asked Rahul Rawail why the jury was not consulted before leaving the films, the director said he was informed about the changes in the opening film. He said: “Look, about not informing the jury about the fall of the opening movie, I think they should have informed the jury, for some reason, they informed me, I do not know about the others, apparently, they were not informed.”
Rawail also suggested that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting could ‘annul and reject any film’.
“As for the fall of the two films, the jury is working on the frame, and the ministry has the right to reject any film, they can cancel and reject any film.” Then, when they asked us to select, we were asked to select twenty films for the screening, and two additional films in case of any necessary replacement. Therefore, we recommended twenty-two films and dropped two movies, and replaced it with the replacements. So, finally, the twenty films that will be screened are the films approved by the jury, and no film is outside the recommendation of the jury, “said the director.
Will the controversy and resignation of the jury affect the festival? Rahul Rawail said: “I have no idea why they resigned, and if their resignations affect the festival, I can not comment on something I do not know, so I’ll go to the festival.”
