Regional Railway Ink Equal Agreement with Public Sector Firms

This is part of a strategy to speed up the electrification of railway lines (currently only 42% of the line is electrified) Prime Minister Narendra Modi has targeted to double it in five years and this year’s budget was announced. That the Railways would have used the EPC route to accelerate the electrification projects.
First EPC contract Rs. Private sector engineering head L & T had a price of Rs 1,050 crore for 781 route kilometers and eight other such PAC prices. 746 crore rupees were signed by the Regional Railway with public sector firms. These are related to electrification of 1,735 route kilometers of railway lines.
Railways are expected to cut their fuel bill by Rs 3,300 crores annually by 2020-21, when it was expected to electrify 90% of all broad gauge tracks.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said that the electrification mission unveiled last November was also not only about energy saving but also modernization of utility.
The Railway Minister said, “This will result in high speed, facilitates smooth travel and should be seen in conjunction with other supportive measures such as converting all meter gauge lines into broad gauge and retro fittings to 40,000 coaches and rolling stock. “.
